Dilemma is, I'm wondering if there's a difference in the internal dimensions and quality of the 32" barrel vs. the 22" barrel. Can anyone shed some light on the subject. Over 140 years old (its inception was in 1873 as a replacement for .50-70), it is still used widely in many commercial rifles, and ammunition is not difficult to source in the USA. The cartridge is also still issued and used militarily in blank form for line launchers used by the navy and coast guard

It has a 24" Stainless hvy bbl with a thumbhole laminate nutmeg stock. 19/08/2008 · I've been bitten by the 45-70 bug and decided to send my Handi-Rifle frame to the factory for a set of polymer stocks and a 45-70 barrel. Dilemma is, I'm wondering if there's a difference in the internal dimensions and quality of the 32" barrel vs. the 22" barrel. Can anyone shed some light on the subject. 24/04/2016 · I have a 500 S&W and 45-70 barrel for my SB2 and called the factory about the pressures. I talked to an engineer there and he said that the 45-70 should be kept to 20,000 psi or the locking mechanism would stretch and fail eventually. Not to use the high pressure loads as a regular diet and keep all reloading done with that in mind. Nearly every historical single shot replica is chambered for the .45-70, but I believe that the .45-70 is at its best when chambered in lever action rifles and carbines. Carbines chambered in .45-70 are excellent, short range “knock-down” guns, ideal for deer, feral hogs, black bear and larger game. So, it’s a good all-around hunting round in various environments..
